The beginning

Welcome to a English Lovers world,
In this world I am not looking to put down anyone's teaching styles or techniques, but simply show that by using some new literature we can still have the same outcome that we as educators, or in my case a future educator, desire. The problem with teaching student's to read and think critically is that student's sometimes do not do the readings. But why? A common problem that we have discussed in my "Literature for Young Adults" class is that if student's are not engaged by the material they will not read it. Our first step that we have to take is to find material that student's can relate to. If a student can relate to the material at hand, then reading that material will become easier for them to accomplish. It will be something they want to read, instead of something that "the mean English Teach" assigned. I do understand that classic literature is very important, but if we first teach student's how to critically analyze books that they enjoy; we can then bridge the gap into the classic literature that they will need for future education. A solid structure in understanding and applying, will lead to success!
